Galing Ni Nanay 2013: Honoring CARD MRI’s Micro Entrepreneurs

The Galing Ni Nanay Awards 2013 recognized six Micro Entrepreneurs at a ceremony held at CARD MRI Development Institute, Inc. (CMDI) at Brgy. Tranca, Bay, Laguna last December 16, 2013. On its second year, the GNN Awards received over 101 entries from the four financial institutions of CARD MRI namely: CARD Bank, Inc., CARD Inc., CARD SME Bank, Inc. and Rizal Rural Bank, Inc. (RRB)

The initial screening of nominees was initiated by the internal awards committee represented by the different institutions and units of CARD MRI. Twenty two-finalists were then judged by a distinguished panel last December 10, 2013 at the CARD MRI Head Office in San Pablo, Laguna.

The national winner for the GNN Micro Entrepreneur of the Year was won by a member-borrower of CARD Bank, Inc. – Nanay Ernanie Llema, a crab meat producer from Piña Island in Masbate. Awards were also given to each institution’s Micro Entrepreneur of the Year. The awardee for CARD, Inc.  was Nanay Lucila Datuin, owner of a souvenir shop in Ilocos; for CARD SME Bank, Inc. was Nanay Julie Anne Reginio, loom weaver from Marinduque; and for RRB was Corazon Blanquisco, RTW manufacturer in Rizal. The Masigasig Award was given to Nanay Mary Jane Enciso who  owns a mini-grocery store; and Malikhain Award won by Nanay Carmen Mayores, who  makes bags out of abaca fiber.  Both are from the Bicol Region.

Winners were selected not only on how they create and build market-leading enterprises, but also on how they take the standard of excellence to new heights, create jobs and contribute to the vibrancy of communities. The four winners in the major category and two special award winners won a total of Php300, 000 in cash prizes, computer packages and plaques. In addition to the prizes they got, the finalists received mobile phones as token and certificates of recognition.
